Reconstruction Period

Image
After the Civil war ended in the 1860’s, a new time began known as the reconstruction period. What this was supposed to be was the reunion of the union and the rebel states. America could finally become the land they were supposed to be, the land they promised.. Freedom and equality for everyone. The country was supposed to come to terms with the results of the civil war and deal with the consequences. Although there was some rebuilding and adjusting this period was meant to leave a legacy of hope and as it partially did, it also left behind a trail of fear and terror.      The Emancipation Proclamation, the freedom the slaves had finally received. On January 1st 1863 president Abraham Lincoln announced this new freedom to the slaves. Soon after when black men were able to enlist, 180,000 men enlisted into the army. Slavery in Relgion

Image
Throughout history slavery has taken place in all religions. Although slavery was condoned for several years throughout the religions it doesn’t mean that it was meant to be or everyone agreed with it. In religions like Islam, Christianity, and Judaism slavery has been there for thousands of years. People have tried to bend the rules and view slavery as something that should happen, that it is meant to be and that’s what their God has told them to do. But reading through the religious texts from those three religions you can see that that’s not what was meant to happen. Their God intended for their people to be equal and parts that do talk about owning slaves make it clear that they should treat their slaves respectfully and should not hurt them. A complete halt to slavery was not something that was able to be accomplished but restrictions were put into place.       In Islam for years they tried to deal with he issue of slavery. Their app...
